A Meaningful Saturday in Child Haus

Last June 25, I had the chance to meet a strong group of children. They did not have the biggest of muscles nor the abilities of superman. What they have is strong fighting spirit. Because everyday, these children have a battle to face. A battle with a serious disease which has deprived each of them a normal childhood.

These children came from different provinces in the country. Some are from Bicol. Others live as far away as Davao. What is common among them is that they all live in one place: Child Haus. As a home for indigent patients seeking for medical treatment in Manila, the free lodging in Child Haus has been a very big help.

At first glance, one might think that the kids are too weak to engage in physical activities. But they proved us wrong! They were so eager to participate. In fact, they love playing games and of course, winning! ;)

They can also groove to the music as seen by this dance showdown between John and volunteer Christian. If you see John in person, he is such an active kid. You would not believe that he has a disease affecting his Langerhans cells.

Even the mothers joined in on the fun in the Going to the Market game. I was glad to see them smiling. I know that these mothers are also going through a very tough time, having to leave their husbands and other children behind for the sake of taking care of their sick child undergoing medical treatments in Manila.

I was also happy to see the volunteers bonding with not just the kids but each other as well. Can you believe it was the first time that some of us met? Yes, not all of us knew each other personally! Angeline and I organized the outreach program for Pinoy Volunteer Group, an online volunteer group that was started in Pinoyexchange forum. We were very blessed at the turnout of donation and volunteers.

The most touching part for me was when the Child Haus kids performed for the volunteers.

Honestly, it was not an easy feat when Angeline and I started organizing this outreach program. Fortunately, hard work does pay off well in the end. The Child Haus Outreach Program would not have been a success without all of YOU!

Thank you very much for all the support! ^__^ Pascual Laboratories, thank you for accommodating our solicitation request especially to Ma’am Anna Maria Lourdes Pascual-Cenzon, DSCC Director. Thank you also Team Pex and Admin Nakura for the donations.

Indeed, this outreach program made me realize that no matter how hard the world is, there is still hope. There are still people who are willing to extend a helping hand. I am so touched at how even young adolescents volunteered their time and talents. In this meaningful Saturday, all of us went home fulfilled. Truly, nothing beats the feeling of being able to give your love, care and time especially to the people that need it the most.

I encourage everyone to visit Child Haus and other institutions. Your visit will be very much appreciated. :) If you want to join Pinoy Volunteer Group, feel free to send a request at our Facebook group account. I believe in the capabilities of every person so please don’t hesitate to volunteer. It will offer you not just an enriching experience but you will also gain friends along the way.

God bless to everyone! Keep Smiling! ^____^
